Kill me, I will let you.
I may be an asshole on the internet, but I have one flaw. It is my tendency to overreact and swear at television.
Fuck me. Fuck me twice. Fuck me for thinking this show could elevate itself.
This week we started with Sin fighting Raishin….and ended with Sin fighting Raishin, but with colors!
The best fight (and I use the term loosely) was the intro, when Loki and Freya come to Raishin’s defense. That at least had the badassery of comraderie. Even still, Sin could clearly pick them all apart, but it would be too tiresome.
The rest of the episode was so much flailing about for direction. They were simply rehashing the plot details of last week: The Kingsforts have a plan to discredit Charlotte. We learned the Granvilles are working in tandem with them, but that our antagonist isn’t loyal. Couldn’t that have been a dramatic reveal when it becomes relevant? Couldn’t we have skipped this bullshit? I mean, the kid admits HE’S GOING TO FOLLOW HIS PARENT’S PLAN ANYWAYS. So what does his lack of loyalty to the Kingsforsts accomplish in this arc? Nothing.
Unless you count establishing him as a sadistic shota who very probably anally rapes his butler as punishment for failure as worthy character development.
And then more hospital scenes. Where we rehash the current dilemma in case you haven’t been watching. MOAR HOSPITAL. NOT ENOUGH BANDAGES! BANDGES FOR EVERYONE!
FUCK. And why is the animation wearing on my nerves this week? It’s never really been a problem to me, I’m often very lax in animation standards because I see it as a plot vehicle. But that’s why I’m a writer and not an animator. But this week…perhaps because there wasn’t even anything going on in dialogue to keep me focused that I just am forced to stare at the characters and pick out their flaws.
Oh. Shouko. And she knows about what Raishin’s doing and why and who is behind it and his chances of success because….of course she does. We don’t need more Schrodinger’s Obi-Wan, we need MOVEMENT.
At least Charlotte and Raishin get a fight scene. Yeah! Sigmund vs. Yaya! We’ve been waiting for this since Episode 1.
Too bad it is the most poorly animated and uninteresting fight in the whole series. Sigmund’s CGI was incredibly distracting. Yaya kept glowing colors but we have the same problem all of the fights had: We still don’t know what these fucking colors do. Yaya glows red, green, or yellow, and then she punches things. There’s no detectable difference in her speed, her form, or function. She just punches.
But enter Sin again. The only point this served was bringing Charlotte into the fight. She could just as easily have entered this fight at the begining of the episode, saying “Nope. Changed my mind. Time to die” and the effect of this episode would have been the same. After all…the point of going after Raishin was to motivate Charlotte, so it would have made WAY MORE SENSE for her to intervene then and not let her friend die on her behalf.
Well at least it doesn’t undermine the stupidity of this series.
